Charing Gardeners' Society was formed 125 years ago. During the early years of our society we had just one main event run in a marquee at the summer fete.
We are a thriving society of over 150 members with friendly people of all levels of abilities and we welcome new members at any time of year at any of our events. We are really pleased to report that there has been a great uptake in membership over the last 3 years and we are especially keen to encourage more children and families to take up gardening and participate in our programme of events.

chairman & publicity
The Chairman organises the committee and chairs the meetings, delegates the activities of the committee and ensures the smooth running of the society. The publicity role is to prepare the newsletter and circulate, to write the content for the parish magazine and to update local media on activities.
vice chair & editor
The vice chairman stands in for the chairman when necessary. The editor produces the annual each year and also manages the website.
The role of the secretary is to take the minutes of the committee meetings and circulate them, to ensure actions are clearly allocated, to prepare notifications and circulate documents for the AGM.
The treasurer pays invoices and expenses, pays in monies to the bank, prepares a monthly financial update for the committee and the annual accounts for the auditor.
The membership secretary handles all new membership enquiries and renewals and manages the membership records.
The role of the social secretary is to book speakers for our talks and confirm presentation details with them and ensure they are paid.
Aly has previously performed many of the jobs on the committee including treasurer, show secretary and chairman and is now a very willing pair of hands for whatever needs doing.
Barbara books our visits and coaches, organises the wine and wander events and manages the provision of and teas/ wine for our talks and events.
Margery is an excellent plantswoman and looks after our plant stalls and is the main liaison point for Charing Scouts and Beavers.
The show secretary manages the show schedule, entries and results, books the RHS judges, manages the show on the day, calculates winners and oversees the presentation of prizes and Inter-village competition.
